The Soldier

She wakes early to call on her Father,

He comforts her and reminds her that His love is unending.

She rises and eats the food that He has given her.

He cleans her garments as she cleans her teeth

Leaving them white as snow.

She scrubs her face as He scrubs at her attire

A repeating motion.

After she buttons her blouse,

He helps her buckle the breastplate on her chest.

Resting her skirt on her hips,

She buckles the belt and sheath handed to her.

She bows before Him

and He helps her with the laces on her black shoes.

Her hair is brushed and plaited with a red bandanna

And He places the helmet on her brow with a smile.

She covers her shoulders with a school blazer

But He gives her a shield, a much better protector.

Her bag is heavy as she fits it on her shoulder.

He hands her his sword

which she takes with solemn dignity.

He has prepared her for anything the world throws at her,

Even the Evil One can’t hurt her.

He cannot convict her of evil, in her chest is righteousness,

She is clean.

He cannot tempt her to bear false witness, truth is at her waist,

She walks in the gospel of peace; he cannot cause her to hate.

Salvation is at her brow, she is His.

His darts can fire all they want;

He has strengthened her faith in fire, it is stronger than steel.

In her hands, a weapon like no other;

The Spirit of God and he is like fire unquenching.

She is untouchable, as His child, and she is in battle for him.

Opposition is rising, and though her ranks may fail

The battle has already been won,

Jesus Christ is victorious.
